2/17/2023 0 Comments Skype technologies problems todayI've already talked to two journalists who seem hell-bent on making a mountain out of this outage. This story is going to get bigger before it's over. The rare global outage gave bloggers a chance to blame closed source, Microsoft, the limitations of p2p, Russian hackers, networking, Homeland Security, lack of resources, VoIP itself, global warming, hangnails, subprime lending rates, France. Karl over at DSLReports has compiled a list of the evil-doers who all had a chance to get blamed for Skype's problems. So this has nothing to do with Windows or Microsoft, nothing to do with a hack or compromise. Plenty of theories have been floated as to what caused the problem, but Skype itself says that it was an algorithm error with their own service. Skype is stabilizing, but this process may continue throughout the day," they say. Most of us cannot get on the service, but Skype says that things should return to normal throughout the course of the day. We're receiving reports from users who are successfully logging on to Skype, but those are the lucky few. Skype's problems are still causing problems across the globe, but it would appear that the end is in sight.
